All aboard!

Hack Clubbers focus on one thing: shipping.

After building a project, like an app or website, “shipping” is publishing & sharing it online.

Your first ship your first day.

Students in many traditional computer science classes are lucky to make a single project. At Hack Clubs, every member makes & ships their first website their very first meeting.

Keeping your eyes on the prize.

Instead of learning programming concepts in isolation, learning by shipping means you focus on what you need to build real projects. It’s more fun & leads to better learning.

Recently shipped…

Tailwind Llama is a web app designed to help people learn how to code with Tailwind CSS. It was designed because I found a lack of resources to help learn tailwind, which can be difficult and tedious to pick up. Inspired by CSSBattles, Tailwind Llama tasks you to replicate cool designs, which get more difficult as you climb levels. After you've finished your design, Tailwind Llama will review with you the tailwind classes you've used, in addition to your time spent and accuracy. This project took over 80 hours, check it out! tailwind-llama.vercel.app github.com/Larry-Larriee/next-llama

I think this is the first time I’ve “shipped” something here that’s not for Hack Club (don’t quote me on that), but I really enjoyed this personal project so I thought it would be worth sharing. What started as a side-project for my internship became more of a personal project that I have worked on more after (since I didn’t get it done during the internship). Anyway… I’ve been working on a genetic algorithm for the stock market. It works by training on historical data downloaded from Yahoo finance using the yfinance library. Then, it extracts indicators from the data, such as RSI, MACD, and DOSC (of course, you could add more). Next, the actual model subtracts an offset from each of these indicators, and calculates a weighted sum from the offset indicators. It then puts this result into a function called a sigmoid, which returns a value from -1 to 1 and buys or sells a percentage of the stock depending on if it is positive or negative. This is a little bit of a simplification, but that’s the general gist of it. It turns out that this makes a lot of money (see the image below which starts with $100,000). The list of tickers I used, is in the repository under tickers.txt. Now, I really want to take this to the next level, so feel free to reach out to me or make a PR if you have any ideas. There are some problems with the simulation/model right now. For instance, it is difficult to predict how the market will behave if the bot takes an influential stake in a business, and I’m not sure how to combat that, especially since I’m using historical data. Also, the amount of money that it is making right now seems insane to me, and it’s possible that there’s a bug (even though I’ve searched the code and validated purchase a gazillion times). So please let me know if you think something is wrong. I’d also really love help on how to make the simulation faster. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing some feedback! - Urjith Mishra git repo: codeberg.org/TheScientist101/genetic-millionaire github mirror: github.com/TheScientist101/genetic-millionaire

SHIP :shipitparrot: !! This is an one day hack. I tried to make a google docs clone named 'livedocs'. Why ? - Dark Mode, Realtime Integrations, Random Experiment (?) This website works unexpectedly well ! This app is a total wrapper around liveblocks.io, they provide a SaaS solution to all the realtime needs in this app. Clerk + LiveBlocks is honestly the entire stack powering this entire website. LiveBlocks integrates with a text editor called 'Lexical' (lexical.dev) made my meta to create the entire editor inside the app ! The website is still in progress but here is the github: github.com/SaMoTechRobotics/SaMoTechRobotics-Website and the current released site: samotechrobotics.com. Also here's is a little sneak peek of the new design, which is still to be worked on. This is a website for my robotics team, I made it because I wanted to make a website with a cool theme. To clarify for the reviewers, I made this by myself purely for fun and hopefully if my team likes it we'll use it next year, mainly I just thought it'd be a fun arcade project to remake it with a new design.
